Ras. 26. Strategiest, diplomatic voice in the chaos, linguist. Former Prince from the Eta Carinae Star System. Former Cosmic Alliance Petty Officer. Dead Man Walking.

Ras was born as the second son in the ruling royal family in his star system. Since he wasn't meant to take over the throne, he was seen as a pawn to be married off to the nearest System Lord for stronger ties. The System Lord? Not a nice guy. So Ras asks for the arrangement to be put off for five years, enough time for him to serve in the Galactic Military, something that would still bring his family honour, prestige, and good ties. Ras gets through two years (basic training and a year on patrol as an officer) before the chance to fake his own death crops up in the form of a botched prison transfer, and he disappears into the stars without a second thought.

Now, Ras works on the ship as a general walking encyclopedia and strategist. He is usually the one that people go to in order to know anything about anything. No, really, years of being raised with Royal and Political Niceties, and having to know how not to start a war, Ras is incredibly good with people, politics, and when all else fails, talking his way out of a situation. He can fight but he would rather not. Just don't ask him to talk about emotions because then he is at a loss.

No one but the captain knows who he actually is because of the whole faking his own death and there maybe being a bounty on his head from the System Lord (who apparently doesn't believe him to be dead, pity that) but there are times when little things slip through. The super suspicious locked box of Princely Items in his room might also eventually give it away. Whatever.
